1st to 7th May 2025

Join us in a week-long series of events dedicated to raising awareness, fostering solidarity, and advocating for justice and liberation for the Palestinian people. Explore educational workshops, cultural performances, rallies, and more. Together, we can make a difference.

Following the successful sporting boycott against apartheid South Africa in the 1980s, we now call for a similar united front against Israeli apartheid. It’s time for Israeli teams to be excluded from international sporting bodies like UEFA and FIFA. Israel’s long-standing regime of settler-colonialism and apartheid has systematically denied Palestinians their basic rights, including their right to participate in sports. There is no place for racism in sports!

Destruction Of Palestinian Football Infrastructure

Palestinian football has faced devastating attacks, with pitches being transformed into interrogation centres, makeshift refugee camps, field hospitals, and mass graves. Over 66 sports facilities have been partially or fully destroyed, including the headquarters of the Palestinian Football Association (PFA).

The current violence in Gaza and the West Bank has shattered amateur football activities, with the West Bank league cancelled due to settler violence. The Israel Football Association (IFA) not only supports this occupation but also stifles the PFA, benefiting from governmental funding while ignoring ongoing human rights abuses.

Sign the Petition

The popular slogan from the South African Council of Sports Boycott rings true today: “No normal sport in an abnormal society.” By remaining silent, football organisations enable Israel to cleanse its image while continuing the forced displacement and genocide of Palestinians. In stark contrast, these same organisations swiftly sanctioned Russia, yet turn a blind eye to Israel’s violations for decades. At the May 17th FIFA Congress, President Gianni Infantino rejected calls to suspend Israeli teams, stating that a legal review will be conducted later. It’s time for world governments and sports associations to stand in solidarity with Palestine and support the motion to suspend Israel.

We know too well that our freedom is incomplete without the freedom of the Palestinians.

Dear Fraternal & Partner Organizations,

We are reaching out to you regarding the forthcoming #week4palestine (#W4P) set to take place from the 1st to the 7th of May 2024. #W4P is an annual global event aimed at fostering solidarity and advocating for justice, equality, and liberation for the Palestinian people. It is expected that organizations in all 9 provinces of South Africa, as well as in several other countries, will be participating.

This year, #W4P in South Africa will adopt a specific theme focusing on “Solidarity through Elections.” We recognize the crucial role elections play in shaping political landscapes and influencing policies, both domestically and internationally. The campaign aims to get political parties to pledge their support and continue efforts to hold Israel accountable should they be elected. Therefore, our theme underscores the importance of leveraging electoral processes to advance the cause of Palestinian liberation and justice.

#W4P goes beyond merely raising awareness; it serves as a platform for collective action and mobilization in support of the Palestinian cause. This week-long series of events aims to unite, educate, inspire, and empower individuals and communities to take a stand against injustice and oppression.

As we prepare for this significant event, we invite your esteemed organization to endorse and participate in week4palestine 2024. #W4P will feature a diverse range of activities, including but not limited to:

• Rallies and marches to raise public awareness and demonstrate solidarity.
• Educational workshops and seminars to deepen understanding of the historical and political context of the Palestinian struggle.
• Cultural performances, including music, dance, and art, to celebrate Palestinian heritage and resilience.
• Film screenings and panel discussions to shed light on the human rights abuses and violations faced by Palestinians.
• Community outreach initiatives aimed at engaging broader audiences and building alliances with other social justice movements.

Endorsing and participating in #W4P involves:

• Accepting the #W4P Basis of Unity. Various organizations have differing views on other matters but all unite in solidarity during #W4P.
• Releasing a statement of support for #W4P prior to the commencement of the event. Please send a copy of your statement to endorse@week4palestine.com

• Utilizing your organization’s social media accounts to follow and promote #W4P using the official hashtags: #week4palestine and #W4P.
• The #W4P South Africa Team comprises representatives from national organizations, cities/regions, and various sectors, all working collaboratively to ensure the success of the campaign at both national and local levels.
• The #W4P South Africa coordinator will be form part of the global #W4P coordinating team

We hope that #W4P will inform voters of the stance of South African political parties on the ongoing genocide in Palestine. At a time when the world watches in horror at the atrocities that have been committed and are still ongoing, political parties are called to declare their stance on the situation in Palestine.

Political parties must be clear on the genocide in Gaza, the forced displacement of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, the exacerbation of the genocide through the de facto policy of starvation in Gaza through withholding water, food and medication and the building of illegal settlements in contravention of international law.

By endorsing #W4P this year you will be committing to the following:

“We, the undersigned people, political parties and organizations, pledge our solidarity to the people of Palestine and call for an end to the genocide and an immediate halt to the actions which attempt to create demographic change in Palestine. We commit to support initiatives at various forums including but not limited to the ICC and ICJ to hold Israel accountable for its genocidal policies and the breach of international law.”

The situation in Palestine reflects our commitment to a better world, free from apartheid and oppression.

We sincerely hope that your organization will join us in solidarity during week4palestine 2024 and endorse the Annual Week for Palestine (#W4P). Your endorsement and active participation are crucial in amplifying the voices of the oppressed and advocating for justice and freedom for the Palestinian people.

In solidarity,
Fazela Mahomed
